Tomato- Veronica




Plant Folk:
1. The tomato is native to South America and a prehistoric introduction to Central America and Southern parts of North America.



2. Tomatoes thrive in sunlight and warmth, and they need water.




3. The tomato is grown worldwide for its edible fruits.



4. The town of Buñol, Spain, annually celebrates La Tomatina, a festival centered on an enormous tomato fight.



5. Tomato varieties are roughly divided into several categories, based mostly on shape and size. "Slicing" or "globe" tomatoes are the usual tomatoes of commerce; beefsteak are large tomatoes often used for sandwiches and similar applications

6. The tomato is in the Solanaceae family.



7. Another plant that is in the Solanaceae family is the eggplant.



8. Tomatoes are warm-season plants and should be planted only after danger of frost has passed. Temperature is an important factor in the production of tomatoes, which are particularly sensitive to low night temperatures. Blossom drop can occur in early spring when daytime temperatures are warm, but night temperatures fall below 55 degrees F as well as in summer
